These are some commonly asked questions about Liberty Ammunition and our products. Feel free to read these and if you have any other questions, please contact us and we will be happy to answer them to the best of our ability.
“Why have I never heard of your company?”
Liberty has historically only provided ammunition for the US Military. The Company’s mission is to protect the lives of our troops, allies and law enforcement officer’s around the world by providing them the highest performing ammunition in the world. As such, it has never needed to nor has it generated any awareness in the commercial market. Liberty also does not engage in “Marketing.” The company operates on word of mouth and performance. Without exception, every US Military, Law Enforcement, or Foreign Allied Military professional that has seen Liberty Ammunition’s performance has validated its efficacy and uniqueness.
“Who validated and tested your portfolio?”
Most of all Liberty’s testing has been done with the US Military, at the National Ordinance and Ballistic Testing Center, and internally at Liberty’s home range. Liberty does not divulge the specific units that have either used or tested its ammunition. Liberty will never exploit those relationships or their desires for anonymity for commercial purposes.
“What is the velocity of the USM4 Ultra Defense and Civil-Defense rounds? How is it achieved?
Liberty’s USM4 Ultra Defense and Civil-Defense rounds travel at velocities greater than 2000 feet per second in 9MM and 40S&W, and over 1900 fps in the 45ACP, near double that of any competitor. Handgun rounds have historically been plagued with limited effective range and low velocities because of design paradigms and limited cartridge case capacity. With the elimination of lead, and complete redesign of the projectile for maximum terminal effect, cartridge capacity is increased and design is optimized to achieve paradigm-changing velocities.
“Are Liberty’s Civil Defense rounds, just another light/fast recreation?
No. Liberty’s USM4 Ultra-Defense and Civil-Defense rounds are designed to achieve more stopping power (kinetic energy) and terminal effect (wound cavity/lethality) than any other handgun round in the world.
“Expansion” from traditional hollow-points is a 30+ year-old idea, and is a antiquated surrogate for terminal effect. Measured terminal effect however comes in the form of depth and width of permanent wound cavity, and Liberty’s Ultra and Civil-Defense rounds achieve substantially greater kinetic energy and terminal effect than any other know handgun ammunition. They just accomplish the performance in a different way – through a combination of velocity, design/construction and fragmentation in soft tissue. So, yes Liberty’s handgun rounds are lighter, but framing them as a “another fast/lightweight” round is uninformed.
“What are your rounds made of?”
Liberty Civil-Defense projectiles are made from nickel-plated copper with a nickel-plated (brass) cartridge case. Liberty employs very strict quality control processes leading to very tight tolerances in the finished product to be match grade every time.
“Are Liberty’s USM4 Ultra Defense and Civil Defense rounds the same as the ones used by the Military?”
No. Liberty’s Military handgun projectiles penetrate the Level IIIA armor vest, and as such are considered armor piercing and limited for sale to Government agencies. Liberty’s Civil-Defense projectiles leverage much of the same technology, but will not penetrate vest armor.
“How do Liberty’s Civil Defense rounds compare vs. other Lead-Free rounds?”
Liberty does not compare vs. other lead-free rounds. It compares vs. all rounds…and outperforms across all relevant specifications, and happens to also be lead-free.
“Why lead-free?”
Lead wasn’t our objective – it was our outcome. Our objective was to develop the highest performing and most lethal ammunition in the world. We accomplished this, and it ended up being lead-free.
Most approaches to lead-free ammunition have been to “take the lead-out” and replace the lead with other materials. This approach however has never been successful as performance is significantly degraded. Liberty’s projectiles start with breakthrough design to optimize performance instead of being constrained by paradigms of incrementalism starting with traditional bullet design and construction.
